TRI-LIBRARY ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN

To fight severe city budget cuts, all three New York City library systems together launched a full-scale advocacy campaign in 2015 to demonstrate libraries’ value to local communities. The successful partnership was repeated annually, with refreshed assets each year that aligned to contemporary events and priorities. In 2018, the campaign centered around the message “Libraries Are for Everyone.” It strove to demonstrate libraries’ role as a safe, welcoming space in NYC’s communities and encourage the City to increase funding for these vital locations. The campaign’s images, tagline, and call-to-action were extended to a variety of print materials and across digital platforms.

The 2018 iteration of the campaign garnered significant press coverage and solicited more than 100,000 letters of support from patrons. The mayor and the City of New York ultimately provided an additional $76.7 million for NYC libraries.
